The expansion of the transport fleet with Cityliner trailers is a key project for Geis PL in 2023, which the company plans to develop intensively in the coming months. It is one element of the MissionZero strategy, which aims to reduce CO2 emissions by up to 65 per cent between 2020 and 2030 and ultimately achieve climate neutrality.
Standard transport solutions, such as the so-called 'solo' truck, hold a maximum of 18-20 euro-size pallets. A significant advantage over these is the Cityliner trailer, which is distinguished by its ability to load as many as 27 units. Thanks to its innovative design, the vehicle can move freely in urban areas with restricted traffic zones and reach places that other solutions have problems with. The use of this type of trailer represents a significant increase in operational efficiency. The solution also has many other advantages - in addition to reducing carbon emissions by reducing the number of vehicles in agglomerations, it also contributes to lower delivery costs.
CityLiners by Geis can be found, among others, in the areas of Łódź, Warsaw, Lublin, Poznań, Bielsko-Biała and Katowice. Others will soon appear in other cities, including Bydgoszcz, Gdańsk and Wrocław. By the end of the third quarter of this year, the company plans to have at least 25 such trailers in its fleet.
- We are watching the concepts of cities change. We are seeing a trend towards more sustainable, smarter and inhabitant-friendly urban spaces, which will soon have no place for CO2-emitting vehicles. The climate situation requires us to take concrete action, which is largely incumbent on companies. In the context of the Polish market, an important step we have taken in this direction is the introduction of Cityliner trailers to our fleet. We are after the test phase of this type of transport in Poland. The results have been so positive that we have decided to include Cityliners in the permanent fleet. Our plan is to expand their number to other locations and respond flexibly to the increase in interest in this solution,' says Paweł Golec, Operations Director at Geis PL.
Sustainable transport in the Geis Group
The MissionZero strategy focuses on three areas: environmental, social and economic. Its assumptions are based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals, of which green transport is the most relevant aspect. With this in mind, in 2022. Geis Group has started building a prototype for a new generation of climate-friendly buildings, approved plans for photovoltaic power plants generating climate-neutral energy, and invested in electric vehicles and charging stations. All with the aim of achieving climate neutrality by 2040.
One of the key elements in this is new transport solutions. Germany is the first Geis Group country to implement an all-electric truck. The company's Satteldorf branch has incorporated the Volvo FH Electric into its daily operations. The vehicle moves almost silently and has been in use since March. The electric truck covers up to 300 kilometres a day.
In Poland, this type of solution was tested together with Scania, which provided Geis with an electric delivery truck. It covered nearly 2,200 kilometres around Rawa Mazowiecka.
